Charles Kirkham Rhodes
Founder and Board Chairman
Professor Rhodes is the Albert A. Michelson Professor Emeritus of Physics and the Director of the Laboratory for X-Ray Microimaging and Bioinformatics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is the Founding Director of the Third Millennium Philosophy of Science Institute in Chicago. Professor Rhodes obtained his undergraduate training at Cornell University and earned his Ph.D. in Physics at MIT. During his career, Professor Rhodes has conducted research beyond the United States in Sweden, Germany, Russia, and Japan. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Humanities Council and a founding member of the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In bridging the fields of arts and sciences engaging diverse, general
audiences, Professor Rhodes has lectured internationally and presented locally at such venues as the Chicago Humanities Festival to capacity convenings at the Field Museum. During the 1995-1997 period, he concurrently held the position of Professor of Applied Physics at the University of Tsukuba in Japan as a member of the Tsukuba Advanced Research Alliance, a special group that spearheaded multidisciplinary activities at that campus. He is currently a member of the Academy of Engineering Science of the Russian Federation, a Recipient of the Humboldt-Preis, a member of the Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, and a member of both the American Physical Society and the American Mathematical Society. Professor Rhodes has published more than 300 articles in the Physics literature and his present research concentrates on Theoretical Cosmology leading an effort that has introduced an entirely new approach to this ancient and profoundly important universal area of human study.
