Director of Publications

Dr. Poopalasingam Sankar is a Mechanical Engineer at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) working on the electron Ion collider project. He played several roles as Research Scientist, Mechanical Engineer, and X-rays Application Engineer in several institutions including Penn Medicine, Rush University medical center and University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to develop nuclear perfusion medical imaging clinical scanners, Ultra-fast Lasers, and generation of ultra bright laser like x-rays sources.  Dr. Sankar received an undergraduate honors Degree in Physics and Math from University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka and awarded a gold medal for his best performance in the Physics. Further, he has M.S in Physics from UIC, M.Sc. in Physics of Materials from Postgraduate Institute of Physics

(PGIS), University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, and Ph.D. in Physics from UIC. Dr. Sankar played major roles in designing and building many states of the art medical imaging scanner and rebuilding x-ray imaging laboratory includingultra-bright x-rays generation experimental setup along with a unique large ultrafast femtosecond KrF* laser system. Dr. Sankar has published more than 50 research articles in Physics and medical imaging instrumentation and presented his research findings in many international research conferences.
